It is preferred to have therapy in the office. Due to COVID, we are able to do teletherapy using a HIPPA compliant source. However, we are able to do therapy online as long as payment is received or covered by insurance upfront. At this time, we do not provide in-home therapy.
We do see children from ages 12 on up. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to accept medicare or medicaid and would require cash/credit payments for seniors seeking therapy.
This office does not do custody evaluations or make recommendations regarding custody agreements or legal marital issues. Counseling, consultation, and psychotherapy are often provided to children and adults making changes in their lives or dealing with difficulty in a life situation.
To protect the confidentiality of all parties involved, neither testimony nor a summary of sessions for custody or divorce issues will be provided. The content of any session will not be discussed with any legal representative without a release of information.
We can refer you to someone who does custody and court-related matters.
Investing in your mental health is the best gift you can give yourself. Therapy will be different for various individuals because various goals are to be achieved. The first session will be intake information on personal needs, demographics, payment/insurance, and reason for seeking therapy. The second session will be assessing your personal history, current events, and your desired outcome after treatment. Other sessions will depend on your specific needs. Sessions can be short-term or long-term, every week, every other week, or one time a month. However, it is most common to schedule your sessions at least weekly when beginning therapy.
We respect and value you and your therapeutic relationship. We can see any person of any faith or those who are not religious. It is our belief to honor your belief systems. If you are a faith-based person and you ask for faith-based counseling, then we can assist you, and if we can’t, we will point you in the direction of someone who might be able to. Some clinicians like Steve Hudgins, LPC, NCC is a follower of Christ, which means his faith will be evident but not be pushed in session.
We provide a written copy of our confidential disclosure statement at the beginning of each session. It is one of the essential ingredients to a successful therapeutic relationship between you and your clinician. It is a high-level degree of trust, which includes sensitive information about you, and it isn’t usually discussed anywhere but in the therapist’s office. Your data cannot be released without your written permission and consent. Sometimes, you might want your clinician to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team (your Physician, Naturopath, Attorney, Medicaid, or insurance companies). Still, by law, your clinician cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission.
State law requires clinicians to be ethical in maintaining confidentiality except for the following situation:
- There is a mandated report on any suspected past or present abuse of children, adults, elders, or animals to authorities. The alleged information will be reported to authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
- There is a duty to warn if the clinician suspects the client to be a danger to self and or others.
- Legal subpoenas or court orders require medical records.
- Testifying against you.
- In the event of psychiatric hospitalization.
We do not prescribe medications. As a clinician, we can provide referrals to several psychiatrists, but you do not have to accept the referral and have the freedom to choose your medical doctor.
